Alice's Secret Fudge Recipe

Once every year, customers descend on the A. Dodson's Open House for one reason and one reason only. Alice's Fudge. We like to think they come for our outstanding customer service or our beautifully curated displays, but we know what's up.

It's the fudge.

Alice Dodson pours her heart {and 50 pounds of sugar} into making batches and batches of fudge for A. Dodson's each holiday. But no matter how much she makes, it's never enough.

So in a bold and unexpected move, she recently shared the family fudge recipe passed down from her mother-in-law, Ruth Dodson. Follow her instructions e-x-a-c-t-l-y and you, too, can become a holiday hero.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 cups sugar
  • 2.5 sticks butter
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 12 oz Nestle semi sweet morsels
  • 3 blocks unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 pint marshmallow cream

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Bring to a hard boil and then reduce to medium heat and stir constantly for 11 minutes. (This is the secret key, this is where the magic happens.)
  3. Pour mixture into a large mixing bowl with the marshmallow cream. Beat until well mixed.
  4. Pour into 12 x 8.5 greased aluminum pan. Let stand on counter until set (6 hours or so).
  5. Slice and curtsy.

Secret Tricks to Success:

  1. Must stir constantly for 11 minutes.
  2. Use marshmallow cream - not fluff!
  3. They don't make 1 pint jars of marshmallow cream anymore so buy two large jars.

Alice Dodson Fudge Stir for 11 minutes. Time will move as slowly as it does on a treadmill.

Alice Dodson Fudge For the next 6 hours:

"Is it ready yet?" "No!"

"Is it ready yet?" "No!"

"Is it ready yet?" "No!"
